What This Archive Covers
SGArtsRecord is a text-based reference focused on Singapore's visual art scene. The scope includes the commercial gallery sector (principally Gillman Barracks and the independent galleries distributed across the city), the institutional funding landscape administered by the National Arts Council, the commissioned public art economy, and the collector networks that sustain secondary market activity.
The archive does not cover performing arts, film, or literary arts except where those fields intersect directly with visual art practice or funding. It does not publish reviews that assess the quality of individual artworks or exhibitions — it documents structures, frameworks, and facts.
The archive focuses on Singapore but includes relevant regional context where it clarifies how the Singapore scene functions relative to its neighbours — particularly the art markets in Hong Kong, Jakarta, and Manila, which are the most proximate reference points for the collector and gallery community based here.
